I would like advice on which campervan company to rent from while in NZ for weeks next spring. We are interested in a camper car bed and kitchen and not a bigger camper. Thanks for any recommendations? I apologize if this has been covered before. NZ motels are of a far higher standard than US motels and each unit has a kitchen so you can prepare simple meals. We do want to camp and not do motels. We like that way of travel and want to do that in NZ. We want a good reputable company and not necessarily looking for a budget company.

Cost is not the main concern. We are looking at the sleepervans that have a bed, toilet and the kitchen is in the back. We want a small vehicle. I ve looked at Rankers and I was interested in if someone had a preference among the top rated companies that offer sleepervans. Do you mean a converted trademans van with mattress in the back, a portable potty under the sleeping platform and a kitchen which is accessed by standing outside at the rear of the van?

If budget isn t a constraint why not get a small, 2 person proper campervan which you can stand up in and actually move about? I stand by my earlier suggestion - Iconic, Maui or Jucy. Take a read of the upper right FAQs for who to avoid. We basically want a car we can sleep in. Not really a camper. This is how we travel and camp on road trips here in the US. We find this is a simple way to travel. Thanks for your advice, though. Just not how we want to travel. Our decision now is which is the best company to rent from ones who have these kinds of campers and who have good ratings.

We are not planning to sleep in our car while traveling in NZ. We are planning to rent a campervan that is self contained. The point I m making is that we don t want a big camper. We want something simple. We are not going to rent a car and sleep in it. My question has been: Is there a campervan company that people would recommend. I have been to Rankers and we re interested in a few companies that rate highly.

I m sorry you misunderstood, Bishop. You say you are interested in some highly rated campervan companies on Rankers - which companies? If you name them and perhaps include a link to what style of vehicle you plan to rent, then we can comment. Lets sort this for you - Contained campervans or motor homes ie with compliant toilets and waste disposal on board are expensive upward of dollars for a 2 seater van. Then there are what is known as a sleeper van -- basically a small van or large car where the back seat becomes a bed and you have a basic cooking area -- for the loo -- u use public toilets or toilets in camp grounds and DOC sites..

On our previous visit we saw a large number of the sleeper vans parked in car parks and just about anywhere by the roads with clothes hanging out and people generally misusing public spaces are infrastructure -- like park benches to cook on -- etc etc This is what the locals DO NOT like.. Renting a car and sleeping in excellent motels is the way to go if budget in limited, the other option is to take a car and tent to designated campsites,.
